3 Retirement Questions for Couples

Retirement is not only for one person but for the couple involved. Thus, it is imperative for couple to plan their retirement as carefully as possible by discussing each other’s needs.

Experts suggest that since this is an arrangement that involves living together after working, it also involves a bit of thought that can be collated as a plan by asking your spouse certain questions.

So here are 3 retirement questions that couples must discuss for a secure future:

#1: What is our idea of a perfect life of retirement?

While your idea of retirement might be sitting at home with little or nothing to do, your spouse might want to travel the world. This is probably the first thing that must be clarified, and when both partners are clear about what they want (and don’t want) in a retirement, and try and negotiate a list that suits both people accordingly.

#2: Who is responsible for what in a retirement?

While working, each partner is usually assigned to carry out certain household chores and it won’t be such a bad idea to make another list when it is time to retire. Once you clarify who is responsible for what during retirement, one must also keep in mind that there will be new chores, and one must leave room for that as well.

#3: Are there any interests that you share in common?

It’s no surprise that couples usually spend time together, thanks to their common interests be it traveling, hiking, attending concerts or even practicing yoga. Ensure that you make a list of these common activities as well as individual interests too – new activities to try together might not be such a bad idea either.
