4 Most Expensive US States to Own a Car
According to a Bankrate.com study, the average driver in the United States pays about $2223 to keep their vehicles running.
However, there are other factors apart from harsh weather conditions and insurance premiums that can cause these costs to balloon even further.
That said, here are the 4 most expensive states to own a car:
#4: Mississippi
Drivers in Mississippi have to pay at least $2487 per annum for their vehicles and this is primarily due to gas costs. Apart from this, the drivers comes in second when it comes to logging miles compared to other states.
#3: Florida
At an annual cost of $2516, Florida is the third-most expensive state when it comes to owning a car and this is due to the threat of bad weather that forces drivers to spend more on insurance. Even though gas prices are higher than costs in the other states, it’s still because of hurricane-related costs.
#2: Louisiana
With an average annual cost of about $2555, Louisiana comes in second largely due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina on insurance and repair costs. Much like vehicle owners in Florida, drivers in Louisiana, have gotten charged more for harsh weather.
#1: Wyoming
At an average cost of $2705 annually, it is the costliest state to own a vehicle. One reason for this is because it is the least densely populated state in the country and which requires people log more miles. In fact, the number of miles they travel amounts to 17000 miles which is almost 68 percent more than the average driver.
