Is it Safe to Process Credit Cards Online?

Most customers these days are aware of the numerous way in which their financial information can be hacked into, and sooner or later ask themselves if accepting credit cards online is safe or not. But in this day and age when online shoppers run rampant with credit cards, is the safety of their financial information under threat or not?

The truth is that threats do exist, and in taking precautionary measures, you can be sure that the safety of your financial information is not neglected. So here are a few tips by which you can save yourself from fraud:

Tip #1: Use a credit instead of a debit card

Using a debit card while shopping over the internet is not as safe as using a credit card. Much like merchants who aren’t protected when a sale goes wrong (even if the free credit card terminal is offered by their merchant services, using a debit card over the internet can result in identity theft which will allow someone to take all your money without your knowledge, and with much lesser chances of getting it back as opposed to a credit card.

Tip #2: A Disposable credit card is the best option

An even better option for customers, if you have to process credit cards online, is using a disposable credit card which has a limited balance on it. Once you use up this balance, the card number (and the card) is no longer useful, and even if someone gets their hands on it, there won’t be any balance to use.

Tip #3: Website security is important

Since most websites have varying levels of security, it is important to verify these levels before you make any transactions. Look for https:// or for a small ‘lock’ icon on the lower right hand corner of your screen, and then proceed to make your purchases.
