The Cheapest and Costliest Cars to Insurance – A List

For the first time in several years, minivans are no longer vehicles that ensure the lowest insurance rates. In fact, this trend has shifted to crossovers and SUV’s which now occupy the top 20 positions for the lower insurance rates.

Experts are of the opinion that SUVs are now the new minivans and considering the fact that they’re used by families who maintain them well and drive cautiously, there aren’t many car crashes that take place. Better still is the low costs involved with repairs as well.

As for the particular models in the top 20 list of the cheapest cars, in terms of insurance rates, the Ford Edge SE, Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium, Kia Sportage and Jeep Patriot Sport are the vehicle that have taken the top five spots.

However, a curious anomaly is the small car, the Honda Fit, which comes in at No. 19 on that list of most inexpensive vehicles.

As for the most expensive vehicles pertaining to insurance rates, a large number of Mercedes models are in the top 20 list with the 12-cylinder Mercedes Benz C600 taking the top spot. In fact, the top 5 positions are all held by Mercedes models as well.

To give you an idea as to how Mercedes drivers have impacted these rates, the annual average insurance bill for one of these vehicles stands at $3357.

However, things look worse when one looks at state-specific auto insurance rates. For the Audi R8 5.2 Quattro, the annual average insurance bill stands at $6009 in the state of Washington DC.

Yet regardless of these rates, people are purchasing vehicles without doing any research on the insurance rates and this includes people who conduct research on aspects such as how to negotiate, fuel efficiency and the invoice price of the vehicle itself.
